1776cc Dual Port Engine:

The bore & stroke of this engine is the perfect combination of performance, reliability and driveability.  It provides excellent low end torque and performance throughout the entire R.P.M. range and is designed for years of trouble free service.   With the same cylinder wall thickness as the 1600, you get added insurance against overheating.

1835cc Dual Port Engine

Essentially the same engine as the 1776 cc, it has a larger 92 mm bore,   it's one of the most popular VW engines available today that still utilizes the stock stroke and offers a few more ponies.

1904cc Dual Port Engine

  • 74 mm Stroke x 90.5 mm Bore
  • 39 mm Intake & 32 mm Exhaust Valves
  • Dual 40 mm Carbs
  • GEX 110 Cam
  • 74 mm Stroked Counterweighted Chromoly Crankshaft

This motor produces additional torque with the use of a special counterweighted and balanced 74 mm stroked crankshaft.   This crank requires only minor case clearancing so the engine retains its strength and reliability.  The thick walled 90.5 mm bore make this an excellent street performer with power to spare.

1914cc Dual Port Engine

This is also the same engine as the 1835 cc with the  larger 94 mm bore. This engine offers good reliability with the most power while still retaining the stock stroke

ENGINE COMPONENTS

Case
We use only new Autolinea cases with the larger oil passages and the dual pressure relief valve system. Using a Bridgeport Mill, we cut 3 steps inside the cylinder holes to match the cylinders perfectly. The use of 3 precise cuts instead of 1 large cut, leaves more material on the case for increased strength and durability.

Big Valve Dual Port Heads
Don't be satisfied with the stock heads you'll find on our competition's engines. Step up to GEX Big Valve Heads. Increasing the size of the intake and exhaust valves results in additional horsepower gains not possible from stock heads. So, we machine and install the larger 40 mm intake and 35.5 mm exhaust seats and valves.

Double Thrust Cam Bearings
This is the ultimate in a camshaft bearing.  Normal VW cam bearings have the thrust shoulder on only half of the thrust bearing.  The double thrust bearings we use, provide an equal 360 degree surface to support the camshaft and reduce wear.

Camshaft
Our GEX Rebuilt Engines come with 110 cams, new engines come with Engle 110 cams. The cam is set up for .431 inches lift and 284 degree duration. This cam has a mild idle and is superior for street and off road, providing excellent low and mid range power. Additional cams are available for upgrade for new engine builds.

Heavy Duty Oil Pump
These pumps, with the 30 mm gears increase oil pressure and lower engine operating temperature.   The result is increased engine life.

8 dowel Crankshaft & Flywheel
With the increased horsepower created, you have to be able to transfer it to the wheels reliably.   The weakest link in the chain is the stock VW 4 dowel crank and flywheel connection.  All GEX Hi-performance engines come with this 8 dowel setup (SPG pattern) to effectively double the strength in this area and prevent crankshaft / flywheel separation.

AA Piston & Cylinder Set
The name speaks for itself.  When only the finest pistons and cylinders available will do, this is the logical choice. Preferred by more top competitors than any other brand, we agree. Cima Mahle Pistons are also available as upgrades.

Hi Carbon Steel Pushrods
These pushrods insure constant valve control under all conditions.  They are heat treated to resist flexing and bending at high rpm's.

Bolt on Valve Covers

Stops Valve Cover oil leaks and adds that custom finishing touch to any air cooled 1200 to 1600 cc based engine.

Any applicable shipping charges are in addition to the cost of the item or items purchased and are based upon the size and weight as well as where they are shipped to. Due to the volume discounts we have arranged with the major carriers, we can usually ship for much less than one might think.

Before you buy, call the competition. Ask if they even have a WRITTEN warranty, some don't. If you catch one that does, see if it covers a warranty issue on a nationwide basis.

Every GEX PREMIUM engine comes with a written Nationwide, No-hassle, 12 month or 12,000 mile Warranty.

GEX Hi-performance engines also come with the same 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty.

We do not know of any other rebuilder that has this warranty on a performance engine. Before making your decision, ask the competition. Most offer no warranty at all. Some are 30 days and after that you're on your own.
